The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has topped over 40,000 people, and the number is expected to rise.
While foreign countries have offered continued support, it is hindered by the US sanctions.
Specifically, sanctions placed on Syria have made it difficult to access medicine and adequate resources.
We have stated at the Europe Peace Foundation our stance against placing sanctions on countries.
Sanctions inevitably affect civilians. They make ruin economies and create hostile environments.
Moreover, sanctions place countries in precarious situations as we see with the earthquake in Syria where providing humanitarian relief is now more difficult.
