PRESS RELEASE

Statement on Human Rights Day

Sunday, December 10, 2023 – Today is International Human Rights day. The world in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Today, we re-issue the call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The violence must end, and humanitarian support and the necessities of life must be restored.

Armed conflicts continue to drive human suffering around the world — and civilians bear the highest cost. “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” Human rights are not mere words on paper; they are universally applicable legal norms.

Human rights are rights that all people have, regardless of their country, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, or any other trait. Human rights are for everyone, everywhere – no matter who you are or whom you love.

And on Human Rights Day, we urge people around the world to promote and respect human rights, every day, for everyone, everywhere. Together, we can build a future where freedom, equality, and justice prevail for all.
