In two weeks the FIFA World Cup 2022 will begin in Qatar this year.
32 teams will participate in the representation of their country.
However, this year, players from Iran and professional athletes have called on FIFA to ban their own country for its gender-based discrimination and the ongoing violence against protestors.
In Iran, women are often denied entrance to watch a soccer game or are prohibited to play without a hijab.
Gender-based violence and murder against women have sparked historic protests across the country. The call for FIFA action to remove Iran from the World Cup is in part o call on the world to recognize the inequality in Iran in the 21st century.
We at the Europe Peace Foundation stand with Iran in its call to action, in its call for freedom and equality.
