Tuesday, April 30th, 2019 MADRID. Tuesday marked the most violent episode of the Venezuelan political crisis this year. Venezuelan health officials said 69 people were injured in the clashes, including two with bullet wounds.

Growing discontent in Venezuela, fuelled by hyperinflation, power cuts and food and medicine shortages, has led to a political crisis. Opposition leader Juan Guaidó has declared himself interim president following large protests, galvanising opponents of current socialist President Nicolás Maduro.

At least 40 people are believed to have died since 21 January. More than three million Venezuelans have fled their country over recent years, blaming hunger, lack of medical care, rising unemployment and violent crime.

Both the president and Guaidó have called on their supporters to take to the streets, setting up more potential violent unrest in a nation already beset by economic crisis, chronic power cuts and widespread food shortages.

The Europe Peace Foundation ( EPF) condemns any maneuver of totalitarian repression that restricts the most basic democratic rights of all Venezuelans to express themselves, meet their demands and postulate for government responses.

The EFF calls on the government, the opposition, the army and the entire society to seek the opportunities for dialogue to prevent further bloodshed and prevent the devastating course of a civil war.

Our Foundation calls on all parties involved in this conflict to focus on stopping the health and food crisis that plagues the country, to bet on rebuilding the deteriorated economic foundations and to bet on a peaceful coexistence where all the voices of Venezuela vote for their destiny without The interference on the part of hegemonic capitalism or the totalitarian left.
