The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians has been ongoing for decades.

One of the key issues at the heart of this conflict is the imprisonment of Palestinians in Israeli jails, which has become a source of controversy and tension between the two sides. This is particularly relevant on Palestinian Prisoners Day, which is commemorated annually on April 17th.

Palestinian Prisoners Day is a day of remembrance and solidarity with the thousands of Palestinians who are currently incarcerated in Israeli prisons. The day is intended to raise awareness about the conditions of Palestinian prisoners, many of whom are subjected to harsh treatment and human rights abuses, including torture, solitary confinement, and denial of access to medical care.

Palestinian prisoners are often held without trial, for indefinite periods of time, and are subject to administrative detention, a practice in which individuals are held without charge or trial for up to six months, which can be extended indefinitely.

The issue of Palestinian prisoners is also tied to the broader conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, it is a symbol of the Palestinian struggle for independence and self-determination. The imprisonment of their people is a form of collective punishment, designed to crush their spirit and undermine their resistance.

On Palestinian Prisoners Day, events are held throughout Palestine and around the world to raise awareness about the plight of Palestinian prisoners and to demand their release. These events include rallies, demonstrations, and cultural events, as well as vigils and protests outside Israeli prisons.

In recent years, the issue of Palestinian prisoners has become even more contentious, with the Israeli government ramping up its efforts to crack down on Palestinian activists and militants. This has resulted in an increase in the number of Palestinians being arrested and detained, as well as an increase in the use of administrative detention.

The ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians shows no signs of abating, and the issue of Palestinian prisoners is likely to remain a key point of contention between the two sides.

On Palestinian Prisoners Day, it is important to remember the thousands of Palestinians who are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails and to demand their release and the respect of their basic human rights.

We call on the global community, international committees, dissidents, Israelis, and Palestinians to stand for the protection of human rights for Palestinians.
