The Europe Peace Foundation expresses its solidarity with the activists and allies who are tirelessly working towards peace negotiations to achieve a much-needed ceasefire in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We strongly advocate for an immediate end to the occupation, as we believe that a lasting peace agreement can only be achieved through mediation and constructive dialogue.
The recent events in the occupied West Bank are deeply distressing and require urgent attention. The loss of lives, including the shooting deaths of three Palestinians during a military raid on the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, is tragic and unacceptable. We condemn any act of violence that results in civilian casualties, and we share the concern expressed by the Palestinian Authority, describing the raid as a “war crime.”
The reports of hundreds of Israeli soldiers storming the refugee camp, demolishing homes, and using live ammunition and tear gas against residents are deeply alarming. Such actions not only lead to loss of life and displacement but also further escalate tensions and hinder the prospects of peace. We urge all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians and to work towards de-escalation and peaceful resolutions.
Additionally, the intrusion of Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem is deeply concerning. The Al-Aqsa Mosque holds immense religious significance for Muslims around the world, and any provocative actions that undermine its sanctity and inflame tensions are detrimental to the pursuit of peace. We call for the protection of holy sites and the respect for religious freedom, which are vital components for fostering understanding and dialogue.
The Europe Peace Foundation reiterates its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, justice, and reconciliation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We encourage all stakeholders to engage in peaceful negotiations, facilitated by international mediators if necessary, to find a just and lasting solution that respects the rights and aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians.
We call upon the international community to play an active role in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful resolution. It is crucial to address the root causes of the conflict, including the occupation, and to work towards a future where all individuals in the region can live in peace, security, and dignity.
The Europe Peace Foundation will continue to support efforts aimed at building bridges, fostering understanding, and promoting peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. We firmly believe that only through dialogue, respect for human rights, and a commitment to justice can sustainable and lasting peace be achieved in the region.
