MADRID SPAIN, October 24, 2022

There are over 3 million Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Over 6 million Syrians have fled their country since 2011, moving to neighboring countries with the largest population of refugees now living in Turkey.

The majority of these Syrians live in precarious situations with limited access to basic needs.

While Turkey was providing temporary protection which included basic needs like health care and education, recent reports detail refugees being arrested and deported back to northern Syria.

These alarming accounts remind the world that the refugee crisis in Syria is far from over.

We as a global community must continue to protect asylum seekers. Without sustainable models that protect refugees, and provide essential services of human rights we will restart cycles of violence and ignite dormant military conflicts.

We at the Europe Peace Foundation believe all human beings seeking protection and refuge must continue to be protected and receive dignity.
