Friday, December 13, 2024 – After 14 years of conflict, recent developments offer a glimmer of hope that the suffering endured by the Syrian people may soon come to an end, and that the world’s largest forced displacement crisis can progress towards equitable solutions. The people of Syria now face a historic opportunity to establish a stable and peaceful future.
There exists a significant chance for Syria to advance towards peace, allowing its citizens to begin their return home. However, given the ongoing uncertainties, millions of refugees are cautiously evaluating the safety of their return. While some express eagerness, others remain apprehensive.
At this pivotal moment, Syria has the potential to conclude over a decade marked by loss of life, suffering, and oppression, alongside severe damage to the nation’s economy, infrastructure, and human resources. Throughout this time, Syrians have been deprived of any genuine opportunity for development.
I call upon all parties to refrain from further violence, to prioritize the protection of civilians, and to take immediate action to ensure that this moment serves as a turning point towards hope, recovery, and enduring peace and stability for the Syrian populace. The Syrian people aspire for development, a peaceful nation, employment opportunities, and an end to all forms of violence and conflict.
Furthermore, I encourage all stakeholders in Syria to embrace my Global Peace 2030 agenda and work collaboratively towards creating a peaceful nation in the world.
