Russia plans to annex four more regions of Ukraine. This act is being rejected by Ukraine and the United States.
In response, Ukraine has communicated it will respond harshly while the United States and the international community consider imposing new sanctions on Russia.
Reports claim that Ukrainians in the occupied regions have been forcibly taken to their homes and workplaces at gunpoint during the annexation process.
The political decision to annex territory through force and civilian intimidation is not a democracy.
The lawful rights and freedoms of individuals must be protected.
Economic sanctions are forms of warfare.

There is no place for this type of authoritarian regime in the 21st century. To end this continued violence, peaceful negotiations must begin. Ukrainians and Russians must be provided safety.
