Monday, July 31, 2023 – Niger military officers said they had suspended the constitution and dissolved all institutions after overthrowing President Mohamed Bazoum. Niger President Bazoum, who was democratically elected in 2021, has been held by troops from the presidential guard since early on Wednesday.

All efforts must be undertaken to restore constitutional order and the rule of law.

The Europe Peace Foundation (EPF) urge all actors to refrain from violence and respect the rights and fundamental freedoms of all. It is in the interests of all the people of Niger that the important democratic gains made in recent years are safeguarded and preserved.
