A recent meeting between leaders from Taiwan and the United States has provoked military action from China.
China in response to the political meeting flew missiles over the country, threatening a potential invasion.
International visits mark the recognition of Taiwan’s independence from China.
Many believe a war with China is nearing. This would mean violence, destruction, and chaos for both the Taiwanese and Chinese people.
For there to be a continuation of peace, diplomacy must prioritize mediation and conflict resolution versus military action.
Without an emphasis on conversation toward resolution, there will be no peace.
We see now and have seen throughout history the battles that take place over territory.
These conflicts lead to years of war and occupation.
We at the Europe Peace Foundation call on peace and conflict resolution.
We stand in support of peace negotiations as the only mean to resolve this political conflict.
