Statement by Mr. KC on the Situation in Ethiopia: A Call for Peace

Statement
1 October 2026 – I am deeply concerned by reports of explosions in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, alongside renewed fighting in Tigray and the neighbouring Amhara and Afar regions. These developments raise grave concerns for civilian safety. I call on all parties to cease hostilities immediately, protect civilians and come to the peace table.

I have repeatedly called for dialogue. Today, I renew my invitation to Ethiopia to join the “Peaceful Nation” roadmap under Global Peace 2030. There can be no justification for continued violence when people seek peace, stability and national unity.

My position is clear: peace in Ethiopia is possible. All parties involved must agree to a ceasefire and engage in meaningful peace talks. I stand ready to support dialogue and assist in mediation with the agreement of the parties.

The people of Ethiopia deserve lasting peace, stability and national unity. Let us work together to achieve these goals.

Peace is the only solution.
