Juba, 16 September 2026 — President Mr. Sappan KC Hum held an official meeting with Her Worship Jennifer Yabu Jibi Lasuba, Acting Mayor of Juba City Council, on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, at Juba City Council Headquarters. The meeting formed part of President KC’s official peace mission to the Republic of South Sudan.
During the meeting, President KC formally presented his Special Proposal for the Immediate Declaration of Juba as a City of Peace and a Roadmap Towards 2030. The proposal was addressed to His Worship Major Christopher Sarafino Wani Swaka, Mayor of Juba City Council, who was abroad at the time of the meeting.
Her Worship the Deputy Mayor formally received the proposal and expressed her support for Juba’s proposed declaration as a “City of Peace.” She indicated that the proposal would be advanced through the appropriate municipal process upon the Mayor’s return.
The proposed declaration would represent an important public commitment by Juba City Council and the people of the capital to peace, reconciliation, dialogue, human dignity and non-violence. It would not mean that every challenge had already ended, but would establish a clear commitment to addressing difficulties peacefully and working towards a safer and more prosperous city by 2030.
President KC presented his vision for Juba to become internationally recognised as a capital of peace and for South Sudan to advance towards becoming a peaceful and stable nation by 2030. He explained that the proposed declaration of South Sudan as a “Peaceful Nation” would represent a national commitment to peace, reconciliation, dialogue, non-violence and sustainable development.
During the discussions, Deputy Mayor Jennifer Yabu Jibi Lasuba expressed her appreciation for President KC’s peace initiative and her support for the proposal presented during the meeting. She also welcomed the broader objectives of Global Peace 2030.
President KC and the Deputy Mayor discussed the importance of promoting peace at the community and municipal levels through youth and women’s participation, peace education, public non-violence campaigns, responsible municipal governance, environmental protection and improved public spaces.
President KC reaffirmed the readiness of the Europe Peace Foundation and Global Peace 2030 to cooperate with Juba City Council and the relevant authorities in preparing the declaration, promoting the initiative internationally and supporting dialogue and reconciliation in an impartial and transparent manner, while fully respecting the sovereignty, Constitution and territorial integrity of the Republic of South Sudan.
President KC stated during the meeting:
“I want South Sudan to be known as a country of peace—not a country of conflict or violence, and not a country defined by United Nations missions and refugee camps. I want to see Juba internationally recognised as a City of Peace, reconciliation, unity and development.”
President KC explained that his visit formed part of the Global Peace 2030 mission to promote lasting peace, national unity, reconciliation, human rights, dialogue and non-violent solutions to conflict. He reaffirmed his commitment to cooperating with the Government and people of South Sudan, civil society and relevant regional and international partners in their efforts towards lasting peace.
President KC was accompanied by members of the Europe Peace Foundation and Global Peace 2030 Representation Office in South Sudan, including:
- Mr. Amute Francis Lobalu Tongoyiamoi, Head of the Representation Office;
- Mr. Mborimbuko Simo Kalesto, Deputy Head;
- Mr. Thirik Lang Mijak, Finance and Administration Officer;
- Ms. Anna Suzan, Humanitarian Affairs and Protection Officer;
- Mr. Paul Lorem Aminathia, Project, Grant and Compliance Officer;
- Mrs. Nyabalash Juaj Bol, Health Programmes and Safety Officer;
- Ms. Flora Lokudu Latio, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Officer;
- Mr. Moses Jamaica Sakondo, Social Dialogue and Mediation Officer; and
- Mr. Sunge Emmanuel, ICT and Communications Officer.
President KC has been on an official visit to the Republic of South Sudan since 13 September 2026. His programme in Juba includes engagements with government institutions, senior officials, Parliament, communities, young people, civil society organisations and refugee communities. The discussions have focused on peace, reconciliation, humanitarian concerns and cooperation towards achieving lasting peace by 2030.
