The recent deaths of asylum seekers who embark on perilous journeys by boat in search of safety is a tragic reminder of the urgent need for greater protection and support for those fleeing persecution and violence.
The loss of countless lives highlights the failure of global leaders to address this humanitarian crisis and ensure that asylum seekers have access to safe and legal pathways to protection.

One example of how we can address this issue is by investing in the establishment of regional processing centers that provide safe and secure processing for refugees and asylum seekers.
These centers could be established in countries that are located near the source of the crisis and have the capacity and resources to provide adequate support to refugees.

By providing safe and legal pathways to protection, we can reduce the number of deaths and ensure that asylum seekers receive the support they need to rebuild their lives.
