PRESIDENT KC MEETS CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS AND LOCAL PEACEBUILDERS IN JUBA

Juba, 17 September 2026 — President Mr. Sappan KC Hum of the Europe Peace Foundation held a meeting with leaders and representatives of civil society organizations, women’s organizations, health and human rights groups, and local peacebuilders on Thursday, 17 September 2026, in Juba. The meeting formed part of his official peace mission to the Republic of South Sudan.

Addressing the participants, President KC outlined the objectives of his visit and shared updates on his engagements with government officials. He presented his proposal for the “Declaration of South Sudan as a Peaceful Nation,” alongside the Global Peace 2030 roadmap and the initiative to declare Juba a “City of Peace.”

President KC delivered a clear call for accountability and results. He emphasized that organizations must demonstrate their value through concrete improvements in people’s lives. Organizational names, public visibility and expenditure alone, he stressed, cannot substitute for meaningful outcomes. He expressed concern that existing efforts were insufficient to meet the scale of South Sudan’s challenges and urged all participating organizations to strengthen the effectiveness of their work.

Outlining his vision for 2030 and beyond, President KC expressed his determination to see South Sudan become a country defined by peace, dignity and opportunity, overcoming the conflict and displacement that have shaped its recent history. His vision includes creating the conditions in which refugee camps and an international peacekeeping presence are no longer necessary. He emphasized that achieving this transformation would require sustained action beyond a declaration, with NGOs adapting their work to support reconciliation, recovery and development in a peaceful nation.

President KC highlighted the essential role of civil society in promoting dialogue, human rights and community-led peacebuilding. He called for stronger cooperation among organizations and meaningful participation by women and young people in shaping the country’s future.

Participants shared their experiences and recommendations, highlighting priorities including land rights, trauma healing, access to justice, resource sharing, youth participation and support for local peace structures. Discussions also explored how Global Peace 2030 could complement the Youth, Peace and Security and Women, Peace and Security agendas.

President KC encouraged organizations to submit proposals for practical and innovative peacebuilding activities for consideration by EPF Headquarters. He stressed that projects should demonstrate accountability, tangible results and meaningful benefits for local communities.

Concluding the meeting, President KC called on civil society organizations to strengthen coordination and work with national institutions and international partners to advance lasting peace. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting dialogue and cooperation through the Global Peace 2030 initiative.
