Europe Peace Foundation Statement: Urgent Action Needed for Peace in Haiti
The Europe Peace Foundation expresses deep concern over the escalating violence in Haiti, where gang activity continues to devastate communities. This week, the United Nations Security Council voted to expand the international security mission in Haiti into a so-called “Gang Suppression Force,” increasing personnel from 2,500 to 5,550 and establishing a UN Support Office to strengthen logistics and coordination.
While this step reflects global recognition of Haiti’s urgent security and humanitarian challenges, the Europe Peace Foundation emphasizes that true stability can only come through sustainable peace, dialogue, and community empowerment. Military solutions alone cannot end cycles of violence.
As part of our Europe Peace Plan 2030, we call on international partners, civil society, and governments to prioritize humanitarian aid, institutional support, and inclusive solutions that restore safety, dignity, and hope for the people of Haiti. Together, we can transform security interventions into lasting peace.
