Somalia: Call to Action for Peace and Humanity
Europe Peace Foundation – Towards a Europe Peace Plan for 2030
A looming crisis threatens Somalia’s children: by mid-2026, nearly half of all children under five could face acute malnutrition. A deadly mix of flooding, drought, soaring food prices, conflict, and drastic cuts in aid is driving hunger up by 30 %.
Today, 4.4 million Somalis — nearly a quarter of the population — are expected to endure severe food insecurity by the end of 2025. Over 921,000 people already face emergency levels. The number of acutely malnourished children may rise to 1.85 million by July 2026 — a rise of 9 %.
As global funding recedes, vital health and nutrition services collapse — nutrition centres have shut, leaving more than 55,000 children without life-saving support. Diseases are spreading, and the resilience of families is stretched to the breaking point.
This is more than a humanitarian crisis — it is a failure of global solidarity. The Europe Peace Foundation urges action now: restore and expand nutrition, health, and water services across Somalia.
As we work toward our Europe Peace Plan for 2030, we call on all governments, institutions, and citizens in Europe and beyond: your leadership and support can avert mass suffering and reinforce peace through compassion and cooperation.
Stand with us — and with Somalia’s children — to demand urgent funding, protect vulnerable lives, and build a more peaceful, humane world.
