HIV/AIDS

HUMAN IMMUNE DEFICIENCY VIRUS or more commonly known as HIV is one of the most terminal viruses that lead to the dreaded AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). Presently there are approximately 33.2 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the world. More than 90% live in developing countries, where access to treatment is much more limited than in the developed world.

- AIDS has been the leading cause of death worldwide among people aged between 15 & 59 Since 2002.

·About 2.5 million people were infected with HIV/AIDS in the year 2007

- About 2.1 million people of which about 330,000 were children passed away after suffering HIV/AIDS in the year 2007.

- About 33 million adults and children suffer from HIV/AIDS

- About 50% of all AIDS related deaths are women.

- About 90% of AIDS transmission is from mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy and child birth.

- About 6,000 people under the age of 25 are infected with HIV/AIDS every day.

- About 40 children die of AIDS every hour.

- About 22.5 million people in the Sub- Saharan African regions suffer with HIV.

- More teachers cease to exist than can be replaced every year worldwide
- More than 50% of Sub-Saharan African hospital beds are occupied be AIDS infected patients making it difficult for other patients.

- If AIDS is left to spread the way it is spreading it will turn out to the cause of extinction of mankind in the future.
